Let’s take a voyage upon the Carnival Cruise Line

This year, my Valentine’s Day took a different turn from the norm of a fancy candle-lit dinner followed by a romantic movie or even a little dancing. Instead, (thanks to the Carnival Cruise line) I, along with my significant other, boarded the Carnival Freedom for a special celebration to honor our military.

To kick off the event, the cruseline’s fun-filled day began with a Martina McBride CarnivalLive concert and a special $100,00 check presentation to Operation Homefront. Following the concert, there were many activities for all to enjoy. From satisfying every taste bud possible with the many restaurants on board, to poolside fun and even treasure hunts for the kiddos, to the relaxation of the hot tubs bubbling ready to enjoy, the overnight stay event was a great way to introduce the $70 million dollar refurbished “Freedom” to the Texas port.

Being my first time to board a cruise ship, I must admit I was a bit skeptical about the experience of it all. I always imagined cramped spaces, bumping elbows with other cruise-goers at the restaurants and bars, and most of all – I always imagined that the staff would be too busy trying to attend to each and every guest such that personalized service was non-existent. Much to my surprise, this was not the case at all.

Although it was just an overnight stay, once I boarded, there was an immediate feeling of fun and relaxation. The first staff member to greet me kindly escorted me to guest services to get my room key and to help guide me with all of the exciting events planned for the day and evening. I was then directed to the lobby bar where the bartenders graciously made me the yummiest of tropical drinks that really made me feel as I had officially escaped to paradise.

With bags and cocktail in hand, I finally made way to my room where a balcony overlooking the water awaited me. Although I could have enjoyed the serene atmosphere for the remainder of the day, I must admit, my curiosity wanted to see everything the Carnival Freedom had to offer.

I visited the spacious and luxurious spa/fitness center, casino, various bars here and there (different cocktails had to be tasted!) and finally settled poolside for the remainder of the afternoon but only after feasting at the large variety of snack bars on the lido deck. Every spot visited on the ship had an abundance of friendly and courteous staff ready to assist with my every need.

Although I wanted to serenade everyone at karaoke, my final activity for the evening ended at the EA Sports bar where I was graciously attended to by a bartender that was so pleasant to talk to – four hours passed quickly! Needless to say, it was time to turn in.

Early morning breakfast was a real treat. I can honestly and shamelessly say that I had more than my fair share of French toast – it was just so yummy! My overnight experience has made a believer thanks to the amazing service the Carnival Cruise line and staff extended. I am now finally ready to book my very first cruise!
