“Go Astros” Shuttle Improves Game Day Thursday Commute

It’s been an exciting season for the Houston Astros. But all the activity at Minute Maid Park can mean increased traffic downtown during the afternoon rush hour, causing big delays for commuters.

To improve service for our customers, METRO will adjust several bus routes and offer “Go Astros” shuttles from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017. The shuttles will run along Congress between La Branch and Main and offer passengers direct service from their regular bus stops to select local bus and Park & Ride routes.

The shuttles will serve customers using the following routes and connect them to their regular buses at Main and Congress:

  • 151 Westpark Express
  • 236 Maxey Road / Baytown
  • 244 Monroe
  • 246 Bay Area
  • 247 Fuqua
  • 249 Gulf Corridor
  • 261 West Loop
  • 262 Westwood
  • 265 West Bellfort
  • 269 Southwest Corridor

Go Astros” shuttle service will travel along Congress, connecting riders to local and Park & Ride routes at Congress and Main.

In order to ensure timely shuttle service, METRO will temporarily close a bus stop at Congress and Crawford. Additionally, a stop at the northeast corner of Congress and La Branch will be relocated across the street to the northwest corner of the intersection.

Signs at closed and relocated stops will guide riders to “Go Astros” shuttle stops. METRO staff will also be on hand to assist riders. Please allow for extra time to complete trips.

Metro Retro & GONZO247 Introduce, Graffiti Patina│ Mid-Century Furniture Collection

Metro Retro Furniture and graffiti artist GONZO247, are teaming up for a unique collaboration melding contemporary graffiti and mid-century furniture design. Building on GONZO247’s 2010 “pop-up” exhibition at Design Within Reach that featured items from his personal collection of vintage furniture, this partnership highlights pieces from Metro Retro’s extensive collection of original mid-century treasures. Metro Retro has given the artist full access to their 30,000 sqft. warehouse, allowing him to hand select iconic side chairs by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller and vintage credenzas from  Florence Knoll. This carefully curated collection features functional forms, elegant lines, and vibrant graffiti patterns from an artist who’s become synonymous with Houston’s ascendance in the global street art scene.
Join us Thursday, December 11th from 5 – 9 pm at Mid Century Modern 2215 Washington Ave. Houston, TX 77007 for a special unveiling of the collection before its available for purchase on the world market via 1stDibs™ and Mid Century Modern’s showroom on Washington Ave.  Vibes provided by local DJ Talent.  Supported by Red Bull and Saint Arnold Brewery.
